"Demon Hunter" Episode 2 by ~notsotoasty:iconnotsotoasty:

The branch bent slightly without a noise as Sepheric gently landed on it. He surveyed an Orc encampment. The camp had a total of five warriors-blademasters.

Sepheric’s job was to kill this group of Orcs for a handsome bag of gold. Their corruption was still evident, but that did not matter anyhow. Today was pay-day.

He jumped to a lower branch, but as his feet made contact with the branch it snapped sending him plummeting to the camp.

He temporarily blacked out from the fall, but as he came to, a jagged blade was held to his throat.

“….!” Sepheric woke up with a startled gasp. He realized he was still in bed. He wiped the sweat off his face and saw that Fawn was still sleeping.

Just…that dream again

He quietly crept out the bedroom and slipped into his sneaking armor. He left his mask behind-there was no use for it.

Sepheric traversed the tree tops of Ashenvale, this used to be his way of helping him sleep, but ever since the Northrend campaigns, sleep was a rare commodity. He stopped to rest at the base of a great tree and simply drowned his mind with thoughts. Maybe this could help him sleep.

He was interrupted by a slight growl. He reached for his daggers, but realized he was unarmed.

Oh, Elune-damnit

A sabre appeared from the bushes and tackled him down. It wasn’t until he reached for the sabre’s throat that it revealed its true form-Fawn…

“Fawn!” He gasped in shock. He lightly shoved Fawn away.

“Leaving me alone in bed again?” She said meekly.

“You know I could’ve killed you if you didn’t Shapeshift back to your true form…!” Sepheric scolded. He sighed and lied on the ground. Fawn giggled and lied down with her love.

“Oh, I’m sorry. I’m just concerned about you. It’s been a few weeks, but you keep up and leaving almost every night and day. Is it because of those dreams of yours?” Fawn said.

How’d she know about my dreams?

“Uhm, how-how did you know about my dreams?” He asked.

“Well, you keep twisting and turning. Not to mention the dozens of names you utter” She answered.
“Speaking of which, who’s Kaparis? Daggy? And…Jarmugand? And I think I heard a lot of women-names as well…” She questioned

“Hey I don’t bother you about your dreams” Sepheric rebutted, smiling.

“Well my dreams don’t cause any concern!” Fawn said proudly.

“Oh yeah? How about this…oh, me? I’m afraid of snakes, c-can you teach me how to handle one? heheheheh” He smirked after repeating (mimicking) Fawn’s dream.

Fawn blushed in embarrassment. “Th-that doesn’t prove anything!”

Suddenly fel lightning blazed across the sky and a nether gate emerged. Sepheric quickly grabbed Fawn and the two hid under a bridge. Soon three demons could be heard conversing.

“Pah…! This is the world we were promised?”

“Do not grief brother. This world’s resources are plentiful for our armies.”

“He is right. Our past masters have ransacked this pitiful world for centuries.  From what I’ve heard this world will provide our armies with sufficient resources.”

Sepheric listened to every word as best he can. He has heard similar voice tones before. He probed his memories for an answer.

“….But where to start? Surely this world has an inlet for our armies. These random portals only spew fourth a minuscule fraction of our minions”

“I sense fading energies in the far south-east. If I remember correctly I heard of a great structure known as The Dark Portal”

“Then it is settled. Brother Dauun we shall take to the Dark Portal”

“What of me elder brother?”

“You shall comb this area for inhabitants. It is your duty to gauge their strength. We must not share our past masters’ folly by underestimating these whelps.”

As the three parted Sepheric waited for what seemed to be hours to emerge from under the bridge.

With a troubled look he remained quiet. Those were Nathrezim. After all these years, he thought he would have never had to meet these dreaded demons. His mind swarmed with past thoughts.

“Sepheric…” Fawn couldn’t bear to see him like this.

“Let’s go” Sepheric took to the trees. Fawn followed Sepheric as a pitch-black raven.

Once they returned home Sepheric quickly equipped all of his war gear and sneaking armor. He equipped his twin daggers, poisoned-tip darts and smaller “multi-purpose” daggers. He even salvaged his old (and overdue) Stormwind library’s “Book of Azeroth’s top (illegal) poisons” and “SI:7’s Poison brewing for idiots”-It was years since he has brewed his last vile of poison.

“Seph…?” Fawn called out, seeing Sepheric frantically salvaging his things. “Is this happening?!” Fawn cried out.

“I wish it wasn’t…”

“Dear Elune…I’ve only heard tales of these monsters”

“These were the things I never wanted you to know” Sepheric sighed, sheathing his dagger. “These DAMNED NATHREZIM have another thing coming!”
***

Sepheric and Fawn slowly stalked the outskirts of the now-former Silverwing Sentinel base. From the flames emerged one of the Nathrezim holding a Sentinel in his hands.

“We’ve purged your kind for generations-You are no different!” The Sentinel roared in defiance before meeting her fate in the hands of the demon.

“Wait here” Sepheric whispered. Fawn remained among the bushes as Sepheric advanced.

Sepheric was within striking distance-a mere five feet away. As the demon unfolded its wings Sepheric unsheathed his daggers, leaped into the air and with two flawless strikes, he severed the demon’s wings.

The Nathrezim howled in anguish as demonic blood spewed from the wounds. “Wretched elf..!” The Nathrezim, with a wave of his hand, summoned two shadow clones of himself. Sepheric avoided the two shadow clones as Fawn rammed through both of them in her bear form, pinning them against the trunk of a tree.

The Nathrezim launched a volley of shadow energy, but Sepheric engulfed himself in shadow the magical attacks were harmlessly absorbed.

The rogue stomped his heels and two serrated blades jetted from the front sole of his boots. He jumped directly at the Nathrezim and stabbed him, thus getting a “foothold”. Sepheric ejected two hidden blades from his gauntlet and swiftly assaulted the Nathrezim.

Enraged, the demon unleashed a tremendous force from within, launching Sepheric into the air, but he quickly recovered mid-air and threw a deadly projectile directly through the demon’s throat.

Fawn finished off the shadow clones and directed her attention to the Nathrezim. She charged the demon and clamped her jaws at his leg-the hamstring area. She mauled off muscle and tendon rendering the demon immobile.

She reverted back to her true form and called upon nature to subdue the demon. Roots jetted from underneath, seizing the demon it their grasp.

Sepheric and Fawn walked towards the Nathrezim. Sepheric drew out his dagger and held it to the demon’s bleeding throat.

“Your kind has intruded on our world for the last time!” Sepheric snapped. He quickly stabbed the demon’s shoulder then brought it back to his throat. He groaned in pain as the dagger exited the wound. His body was rippled with large bleeding wounds.

“Ss-pa---ach---spare mm-mm-me” The Nathrezim struggled to speak. His punctured throat made it almost impossible to utter a word.

Sepheric looked down upon the pathetic whelp-In all their power and might a Nathrezim manages to cower like a captured thief.

“You bring dread to all opposition, Nathrezim, yet you have the will to beg for mercy?” Sepheric glared. “No wonder the Burning Legion succumbed to the might of mortals…”

Sepheric took out a plant from a vile and crushed the plant over the demon’s wounds, causing small spores to make contact with his wounds. The Nathrezim howled in anguish.

“We’ve had it with your kind. You’re not welcome on this world!” Sepheric unsheathed his other dagger and was moments away from severing the demon’s head.

“Seph! Stop!” Fawn cried out. Sepheric halted his coup de grace and turned his attention towards Fawn. Fear filled her eyes-She’s never seen Sepheric like this.

“He’s defeated. Let him go…” Fawn gulped.

“NO” Sepheric snapped as he turned his attention back to the demon. “YOU’RE NOT BEING YOURSELF!” Her eyes blazed red.

Sepheric once again, looked into Fawn’s watery eyes and complied with her wishes. He sheathed his weapons and slowly walked pass Fawn, keeping his head low and concealed his face (save his eyes) behind his mask.

Fawn relinquished the demon from the roots. “Fff-fool” The demon spat out. He mustered enough energy to open a portal from beneath and slowly sank into it.

Fawn looked into the demon’s eyes before he disappeared-She’s never felt such ominous fear from creatures such as these.

She caught up to Sepheric. He looked at her and said, “I think it’s time I tell you about my past…”

She wrapped her arms around him and with a reassuring gesture she said. “So does this mean you weren’t part of the Dark moon fair circus?”
